CSC Empowers Paralegals During the PLI
CSC co-sponsored another successful Paralegal Leadership Institute (PLI) conference in New York City this past month. Nearly 100 paralegal managers, paralegals and other legal professionals gathered for the day and a half event to collaborate and learn from experts and peers.
Increasingly, successful paralegals must become experts in their fields. To do this, they are asked to rely on solid professional and legal skills. During this year’s PLI, paralegals from the U.S., Europe and South America benefited from programs specifically designed to address these needs. “The PLI provides a wonderful opportunity for paralegals to learn best practices or become exposed to new tactics to better perform at their specialties,” commented Stephen Butler, Director of Marketing with CSC. “This industry is constantly changing and we are continually looking for ways that we can help legal professionals become more responsive to the demands of today’s environment.”
A sampling of the over 30 workshops from the PLI include: The Latest in E-mail, Voice Mail and Auto Discovery; Mergers and Acquisitions; The Sedona Principles; The Trial of Your Life Knowledge Management, Best Practices for Database Setup; Gathering and Managing Evidence; and Section 16 Filings.
Two of this year’s workshops were led by CSC:
Strategies for Reducing Risk & Cost in Managing Corporate Documents
This workshop addressed the growing need to more efficiently manage the increasing demands associated with corporate documents. From the generation and inflow through the storage and accessibility of the documents, the elements of risk and productivity were discussed. It is essential to have a comprehensive system and process that will meet the ever increasing compliance and governance requirements. The overall process must meet the needs of multiple departments within an organization and be robust enough to satisfy internal security and access requirements. The attendees were presented with a recommended strategy to assist in the identification of business requirements, solution development and implementation process that, when properly executed, will improve productivity and reduce the organization's overall exposure to risk. UCC Search Interpretation
Paralegals have great responsibility when reviewing UCC searches. Even minor interpretive errors can prove costly for those that must rely on the search results. Unfortunately, the effect of UCC records is often misunderstood because they actually contain less than meets the eye. In this session, paralegals learned the finer points of UCC search interpretation, including specific details to review, the limits of UCC information and the real effect of amendments. Throughout the presentation, the paralegal learned how to avoid the most common traps for the unwary searcher. To learn more about how CSC can help, click here.
